Lifestyle
While you may be planning a fancier menu this Thanksgiving, we believe that all you need on this wonderful occasion is a neatly cooked turkey. Many people avoid cooking a turkey because they believe they do not have the time to make this delicious meal.. Here, we share a simple and stress free turkey recipe that everyone can use.
Selecting the Right Turkey
For most people, the stress starts with the selection of the right bird. With so many options out there, it can be difficult to select the one that suits you the best. We have found that it is better to use a fresh turkey for Thanksgiving, but it can often be difficult to grab one from the local stores. You may also use frozen turkeys if fresh produce is unavailable. Make sure to buy a brined turkey.
If you only have access to frozen turkey, then do not worry. Simply place the turkey in your refrigerator five days prior to the day of cooking. This will defrost the bird in the most ideal manner.
Cooking the Right Way
Once you have thawed out your turkey, it is time to cook. Now prepare the turkey by placing it in an oven tray and bind the drumsticks together and tuck them in. Always keep the breast facing upwards when placing the turkey in the tray. Here is an excellent recipe to cook a 12 pound turkey:
- Preheat the oven to around 330 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Remove giblets and place a clean turkey in the oven.
- Mix around ¾ cup of olive oil with 2 tbsp of garlic powder.
- Add 2 teaspoons of basil and 1 tsp of ground sage.
- Season it with 1 tsp of salt and about ½ tsp of black pepper.
- First add two small bowls of water to the oven tray and then apply this mixture all over the turkey. Cover the top with a lid.
- Bake for around 2 hours. Then carefully place aluminum over the tender parts of breast and drumsticks and place it back in the oven.
- Keep it in the oven for about an hour and a half more. This will completely tenderize the meat, yet keep it moist.
- Give the turkey around 30 minutes, in order to cool down and then carve it and serve with the gravy.

All turkey recipes are dull, unless they are supported by gravy. Our recipe will stand out, when you serve it with a simple gravy. Here are the steps for creating excellent gravy that will increase the craving of your guests:
